Celebrity Cruises Makes Protocol Changes to Comply With Florida
Celebrity Cruises is adjusting its ship’s operations in order to comply with the recently enacted laws in the state of Florida in regards to paying employees. The cruise line is taking these steps in an attempt to avoid the costs of litigation, which could have been a result of an employee not receiving payment for wages owed or delayed-for-payment of wages.
Celebrity Cruises made several changes to its official guest handbook when it last sailed into the Gulf of Mexico in August, all in an effort to demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility. Quite simply, “we are dedicated to the safety, well being and security of our guests and crew,” said Susan P. Coles, vice president of guest experience. “As we know, this is a very important topic in this day and age.”
Celebrity Cruises, one of the world’s largest cruise lines, has made some changes to its signature safety and operations procedures to comply with the U.S. Coast Guard’s recent regulation on cruise ships in U.S. ports.. The cruise line is now complying with a new Florida law that says it can’t require proof of vaccination.
It remains to be seen whether clients who are not vaccinated will be happy with these changes. Guests who have not been vaccinated or do not wish to disclose their status will not only incur additional costs, but will also have to comply with various additional rules and regulations on board.
Fairway should maintain 95% threshold
Celebrity Cruises says it will maintain a threshold of 95% vaccinated guests on board its ships. These are the two ships flying this month and next, but subject to CDC travel restrictions. This means that the Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Equinox will not receive a swimming permit from the CDC unless they meet the 95% vaccinated guests rule.

The problem for the cruise line is that it cannot ask its customers to confirm their vaccinations. The cruise line has now stated that it will not require its customers to confirm their vaccination, but will do so on a voluntary basis.
Guests who cannot voluntarily provide proof of vaccination will be considered unvaccinated, other protocols will be applied on board and additional health confirmation fees will be charged. This additional cost includes a PCR test within 72 hours of arrival, an antigen test at the dock and two antigen tests on board, for a total of $178.
This comes on top of a long list of other measures the cruise line has taken to discourage customers from not providing proof, while discouraging those who are not vaccinated from booking a cruise. These measures include:
- Guests with a negative PCR test must report to the terminal for boarding within 72 hours of arrival.
- In the dock, you’ll get an antigen test.
- In the middle of the cruise, it is necessary to do an antigen test on board.
- An antigen test is required at the end of the trip. Therefore, the cruise line does not recommend that customers schedule the day of disembarkation to allow time for the necessary tests.
- The cost of these antigen tests per person is $178 and will be charged to your entry account. The cost of the pre-arrival PCR test is not included.
- Masks are required at all times on board except during meals and drinks.
- Depending on the requirements of the local authorities, unvaccinated guests may not be allowed to go ashore.
- For unvaccinated people, certain places like. For example, in dining halls, casinos, theatres, etc., special seating is provided.
Making travel undesirable
Vaccines have long been a part of international travel. Even if Florida doesn’t like it, the cruise industry has the right to impose additional measures on customers who are not vaccinated. By making cruising even more expensive and adding masks on board Celebrity Cruises, customers will think twice before booking a cruise if they are not vaccinated.
Cruise lines are caught between a rock and a hard place. But their first thought would be that in their largest market, the majority of the population is already vaccinated. And so the cruise lines think about how to survive, not how to please.
An outbreak of disease among a group of unvaccinated guests will not only cause problems on board. It will be a media frenzy that the cruise lines will avoid at all costs.
The Celebrity Edge will therefore be the first cruise ship to be launched on 26. June 2023 to begin regular cruises from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Celebrity Equinox departs on the 25th. July again from the same port with cruises to the Caribbean. The two ships succeed Celebrity Millennium, which is already back in the Caribbean from St. John’s. The Celebrity Apex has started sailing out of Greece.
Celebrity Cruises has just announced changes to their pre-cruise medical requirements for passengers and crew. Effective immediately, all passengers in first class cabins and crew will be required to have their medical records checked by their personal physicians prior to sailing. Previously, all first class passengers and most crew were required to complete a doctor’s questionnaire at the time of booking, and their medical records would be reviewed by the cruise line if any conditions were noted..
