Riviera Nayarit Proves Resilience With New Hotel Openings
This summer Riviera Nayarit celebrates 25 years since it opened its doors as an epicenter for tourism in this beautiful region
Every year, Riviera Nayarit is famous for its beautiful beaches, charming towns and abundant wildlife. It’s also known for being the first and last stop for many travelers on their Central American adventure. In recent years, however, Riviera Nayarit has proven itself to be a resilient destination for travelers of all types.
The official opening of Riviera Nayarit, a hotel that was designed to have a “boutique design, smart spaces and modern technology” to be located in the heart of the Melaque Beach and Golf Resort in Puerto Angel, Mexico.
The Mexican region of Riviera Nayarit proved to be more resilient than any other after one year.
Famous for its miles of beaches, wide selection of hotels and resorts, fascinating nature and wildlife, world-class golf courses, delicious local cuisine and much more, this eclectic destination has somehow overcome the COVID-19 pandemic with even more to offer.

Most importantly, travelers can rest assured that Mexico’s Pacific Ocean treasure is safe to visit. During the pandemic, officials developed guidelines and best practices for wellness tourism, based on recommendations from international health authorities, which were then implemented by various service providers in the region.
These efforts have been awarded the Safe Travels label from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). In addition, COVID-19 testing centers have quickly sprung up, and many hotels and resorts offer convenient on-site testing for guests who need a negative result to return home.
Since April, the state of Nayarit has been marked yellow in Mexico’s traffic light monitoring system, with all businesses and organizations running at 70 percent of their capacity. This includes hotels, beaches and excursions.

Riviera Nayarit has also expanded its portfolio of luxury hotels in recent months. The 324-room Conrad Punta de Mita opened in September and the 105-villa One & Only Mandarina opened in November.
Travelers to Punta de Mita’s soft white sand beaches will soon have even more to offer: the Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort and Dreams Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort by AMResorts, with a total of 641 suites, will open on 1. August open. Highlights of the hotel include spectacular views of the epic Marietas Islands and many unlimited all-inclusive amenities. In addition, Spanish chain Iberostar will open its second resort on the Riviera Nayarit in December. About $80 million has been invested in the construction of the Iberostar Grand, Punta de Mita with 300 rooms.

For its part, Auberge Resorts Collection will open the Susurros del Corazon luxury hotel in 2023. Set on jungle-covered cliffs, this romantic hotel offers even more spectacular views of Isla Marietas. It will consist of 59 residential villas or beach bungalows.
Marriott International also has big plans for Riviera Nayarit. The Grand Matlali Hills Resort & Spa will be converted to an all-inclusive concept under the Delta brand and the expansion project will be completed by 2023. Marriott also plans to develop four additional projects under the Westin, Autograph Collection and Ritz Carlton brands in 2023 and 2025, adding up to 1,440 new rooms.

The Ritz-Carlton Reserve Riviera Nayarit in Costa Kanuwa will open with 110 luxury rooms, suites and private villas with spectacular ocean views, while the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in the same resort is under construction. Finally, Rosewood Mandarina will open in 2023 as the brand’s fourth resort in Mexico, offering 130 rooms, suites and villas with panoramic views of the region’s unparalleled natural beauty.
