Norwegian Cruise Line Cancels Select Sailings for Five Ships

The move comes as NCL plans to return from the US this summer, starting in August 2023.

Norwegian Cruise Line Cancellation

The cruise line has canceled additional voyages on five NCL ships, including Pride of America through November 20. 2023, Norwegian Dawn until November 21. November 2023, the Norwegian Joy to 13. November 2023, which Norwegian Sky will operate until 21. January 2023 and the Norwegian Star to 2. January 2023.

Norwegian Cruise Line had frozen cruises a few days before the announcement, but a final decision has now been made. Other cancelled flights are related to ongoing travel restrictions and the impact of the pandemic on local communities. The cruise line stated at the time of the booking freeze:

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect communities and ports around the world, we are determining our next steps. While we are considering the possibility of resuming flights, we have temporarily frozen those that could be affected if we delayed them further. Be patient with us. We will make a decision soon and provide information as soon as it is available.

Customers who had active reservations on the affected cruises will receive a refund until August 18, 2023, when you will automatically receive your cruise refund. An additional 10% discount coupon will also be added to the account for those who have not already received it for a previous cancellation.

Given the large number of cancellations resulting from the suspension of service around the world, it is likely that many customers booked their trip with the credit they previously received for future cruises. This credit will be automatically transferred to the Latitudes customer account within seven days.

It’s not all bad news, because Norwegian Cruise Line is returning this summer. The Norwegian Gem will be launched on the 15th. August 2023 to set sail again from Miami, Florida, with seven-day cruises in the Caribbean.

The Norwegian Breakaway departs on the 26th. September 2023 to begin cruises from New York to Bermuda. The Norwegian Bliss departs on the 24th. October, departure from Los Angeles for the Mexican Riviera. The Norwegian Escape departs from Port Canaveral in the Caribbean on November 13, and the Norwegian Encore departs on November 7. November 2023 to replace the Norwegian Bliss Alaska on cruises from Seattle. Cruises aboard the Norwegian Sun liner will also return to Asia in early 2023.
