42 Carnival-Owned Cruise Ships Are Resuming Operations
Carnival has added Carnival Elation, Carnival Pride, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Vista, Carnival Breeze and Carnival Sunshine to its fleet of Carnival-owned ships, bringing the fleet of Carnival-owned cruise ships to a total of 42 ships. In addition to the five new ships, Carnival announced that it will return three ships that had been taken out of service–Carnival Elation, Carnival Pride and Carnival Triumph–to the fleet beginning in January.
On Monday morning, Carnival Cruise Line announced that it is resuming operations on 42 of its remaining ships in the wake of Hurricane Irma evacuations. The company said it will resume operations on the remaining ships in the following Caribbean and Mexican ports: San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas, USVI; St. Maarten; Cozumel, Mexico; and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.
Carnival Corp. announced that it will resume limited operations on its owned and operated cruise ships after the company successfully reached agreements with its lenders to restructure the majority of their debt obligations.
Carnival is relaunching 42 cruise ships in the United States, Caribbean and Europe under its eight brands. This is good news for the cruise industry, which has been on hiatus for more than 15 months in the US and also on hiatus in Europe.
The world’s largest cruise line returns!
A total of 42 Carnival cruise ships will return to service by the end of the fiscal year, primarily in the U.S., Caribbean and Europe. These include recovery plans announced by eight brands, including Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn, Costa Cruises, AIDA Cruises, P&O Cruises and Cunard.
Roger Frizzell, director of communications for Carnival Corporation, said:
For all our brands, our biggest responsibility and highest priority is always to comply with regulations, protect the environment and ensure the health, safety and well-being of our guests, our employees on board ships and ashore, and the communities we visit.
We are pleased to announce that eight of our leading cruise brands from around the world will be sailing this summer. To date, we have announced that we will be reducing more than half of our capacity by the end of the fiscal year to meet the significant pent-up demand for cruises and return to doing what we do best – providing our guests with one of the world’s most popular leisure activities.

The list includes Mardi Gras, the line’s newest and most innovative ship and North America’s first clean cruise ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), which will launch on the 31st. July in Port Canaveral.

Although there has been much talk in the US cruise industry about the problems associated with the suspension of cruises by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some cruise lines have managed to offer limited cruises elsewhere. These include the AIDA and Costa cruises, which were originally scheduled to return to service in March and May 2023, respectively.
Frizzell added:
The overall recovery of the cruise industry marks a crucial step in the turnaround of our brands and the industry as a whole, which is having a significant economic impact and supporting jobs in many sectors around the world. While our cruise brands work closely with our partners in ports, destinations, supply chains, and travel agencies to resume cruise operations responsibly, we will ensure that the entire industry continues to work together for public health.
