Liza Jessie Peterson

TALVIN WILKS, Director and Dramaturg

Talvin Wilks is a playwright, director and dramaturg. His plays include Tod, the boy, Tod, The Trial of Uncle S&M, Bread of Heaven, An American Triptych and the 2015 world premiere of Jimmy and Lorraine. He has served as co-writer/co-director for ten productions in Ping Chong’s ongoing series of Undesirable Elements, as well as the recent premiere of Collidescope: Adventures in Pre- and Post-Racial American. He has created five world premieres with the Bebe Miller Company, including Landing/Place for which he received a 2006 Bessie Award. Recent premieres include work with Carmen de Lavallade (As I Remember It), Camille A. Brown and Dancers (Mr. TOL E. RaNcE, Black Girl: Linguistic Play), Urban Bush Women (Hep Hep Sweet Sweet, Walking with ‘Trane) and Baba Israel (The Spinning Wheel). 

 

KATHERINE FREER, Media Designer

Katherine Freer is a video designer working in theater, film, and installation. Frequent collaborators include Tim Bond, Liz Lerman, Ping Chong, Kamilah Forbes, Stein | Holum Projects, Andrew Scoville, and Tamilla Woodard. Recent designs include Collidescope (UMASS Amherst, dir. Ping Chong and Talvin Wilks), The Christians (Syracuse Stage, dir. Tim Bond), The Great Gatsby (Indiana Repertory Theater, dir. Peter Amster), Healing Wars (La Jolla Playhouse, dir. Liz Lerman), Sunset Baby (Labyrinth Theater, dir. Kamilah Forbes), The Wholehearted (Arts Emerson, dir. Suli Holum and Deborah Stein), and The Glass Menagerie (Syracuse Stage, dir. Tim Bond). Katherine is a Helen Hayes nominee and an Innovative Theater Award nominee. She is a founding member of Imaginary Media and MediaLounge.


LUQMAN BROWN, Sound Designer

Luqman Brown is an Adelco-nominated sound designer working out of his native Harlem, New York. Recent credits include BRIC's Fireworks Residency production of Aisha Cousins' “Br'er Rabbit The Opera: A Funky Meditation on Gentrification and How To Survive," Signature Theatre Company's world-premiere production of Katori Hall's “Hurt Village,” Hip Hop Theater Festival's Production of Radha Blank's NEA award-winning play, “SEED,” SummerStage's production of Mondo Alvarado's “The King of Infinite Space,” and NYU Tish School's production of Radha Blank's “Chicken and Rice.”

As a well-known musician on the national scene (he was featured in the award-winning documentary, "AfroPunk"),Luqman has produced for or performed with many talented artists--from Fishbone to Living Colour and from LCD Sound System to A Tribe Called Quest. But he is most noted for the decades of work he's put in with his own band FUNKFACE and solo project DOPE SAGITTARIUS, for which he has contributed his skills as a songwriter, guitarist, trombonist, vocalist, producer, concept designer, and engineer.
